Trimmers

A clipper builds the haircut, but a trimmer finishes it. Everything in this collection is a detailing machine, built for the line-up, the neckline, the beard edge and the dry-shave finish. The choice here comes down to blade type, how close the blade can be gapped, how fast the motor runs and how long the battery holds up between clients.

T-blade or standard: the first choice in beard trimmers

Almost every professional trimmer in this range is a T-blade machine, and that is deliberate. A wide, exposed T-blade gives you 360-degree visibility of the cutting edge, so you can see exactly where the line lands. The HECTOR Monster T and the JRL DI2025TH both use a 42 mm T-blade, while the HECTOR Linear T pairs Linear T blade geometry with a high-speed motor. The 3-in-1 POWERTEC TR-5800 and TR-5900 sets take a different route: interchangeable heads for hair, beard and neckline, aimed at home grooming rather than barbershop line-ups.

Zero-gap and cutting length

Zero-gap is what separates a clean edge from a soft one. The STYLECRAFT Instinct, Instinct Metal and Saber trimmers all ship with a zero-gap adjustment tool, as does the GAMMAPIU XCell Metal Trimmer, which cuts at 0.3 mm out of the box. The HECTOR Zero Trimmer is built around an exposed zero-gap T-blade for skin-close work, and the HECTOR Monster T adjusts from 0.1 mm to 0.4 mm. If you want the shortest possible cut, the POWERTEC TR-758 goes down to 0.1 mm.

Motor speed and blade coating

Speed keeps the line crisp on dense hair. The STYLECRAFT Instinct and GAMMAPIU XCell run IN2 vector motors at 9,500 RPM with torque that adapts to hair resistance; the STYLECRAFT Saber uses a brushless motor at 7,500 RPM; the JRL DI2025TH holds a constant 8,200 RPM with 5V Boost; and the HECTOR Linear T pushes 11,000 RPM. The POWERTEC TR-758 runs a 4-speed 7,000 RPM motor.

On blades, DLC coating means a sharper, cooler, longer-lasting edge. The STYLECRAFT and GAMMAPIU trimmers use an X-Pro DLC fixed blade with The One DLC mover, and the HECTOR Monster T uses DLC-coated 440C steel at 62-63 Rockwell hardness.

Battery: how long between charges

• STYLECRAFT Saber: up to 4 hours, full charge in 90 minutes
• JRL DI2025TH, HECTOR Linear T and GAMMAPIU XCell: up to 3 hours
• STYLECRAFT Instinct and Instinct Metal: up to 2.5 hours
• HECTOR Zero and POWERTEC TR-758: around 2 hours

The HECTOR Zero Trimmer and Linear T also run corded, which is worth having if you never want to lose a chair to a flat battery.
